For more than 75 years, the Rockettes have been kicking and dancing their way into the heart of America. Considered a National Treasure by the United States Government, more than 3000 women have been a Rockette since 1932. The group was first formed in 1925 by Russell Markert, fulfilling his long time dream of having a dance troupe that performed in absolute perfect unison. The original Rockettes had only 16 women in the line-up compared to the 32 woman line-up used for performances today. The Rockettes are most famous for their annual performance at the Radio City Music Hall in the show �Radio City Christmas Spectacular.� To date, it is the largest viewed live show, boasting more than 2.1 million viewers in a single season. Throughout the year, the Rockettes perform for the Macy�s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York, Super bowl half-times, they have opened for the Tony Awards and the Daytime Emmy Awards and they perform live on �The Today Show,� �Good Morning America,� and �The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.� Each year, hundreds of women from all over the United States flock to New York to audition for a coveted spot on the Rockette line. They must be between 5�6 and 5�10 in height and have mastered the dance arts of tap, jazz, ballet and modern dance. On top of all those criteria, a Rockette must have an outstanding stage presence that will shine across the grand stage of Radio City Music Hall. Radio City Christmas Spectacular tickets have sold out for more than 45 years and continue to fly off the press as soon as they are released. It is evident by their ticket sales that the Rockettes and their flawless show will continue to kick for another 75 years or more.
